Fresh into college, I wanted to be cool and guitar was a must have to escape my nerdvana...
What started as (a sort of) wannabe passion, today is a very integral part of life and an excellent way to relax, unwind and be creative.
In college, I started with metal (the holy trinity of Metallica, Megadeth and Iron Maiden) and then hopped on to progressive & alternate rock (from Pink Floyd to Porcupine Tree to Alterbridge). Then came the pop, acoustic & indie phase (think Mancherster Orchestra, ColdPlay, Imagine Dragons & Cigarettes After Sex). Of course, there was a phase of infatuation with the 3 Kings.
Today, instrumentals (think Hans Zimmer and John Newton Howard) and piano (Ludovico Einaudi, Yiruma, Olafur Arnalds, Max Richter and the greats - Bach, Beethovan, Chopin & Mozart) dominate my playlist.
I would rate myself 5/10 as a guitar player now but the most important realization here was that good things take time and the importance of starting early. My music journey goes back ~10-12 years and it is now when I feel that I 'know something' about music and playing. Music has enabled me to think in decades rather than days, take the leap when not fully sure and to focus on consistent small incremental changes rather than be 'the rockstar' for which I shall forever be grateful.
Next, I am the most excited about leveraging AI to create music. Check out these experimental tracks:
